Semester started with experiments of composing forms on the floor

Using this sheet of canvas

tried to find a clay mixture that close enough matches my skin tone

mixing white stoneware and Raku Gold clay together in different portions – 1:0, 1:1, 1:2, 1:3, 1:4, 1:8

orignal idea was to fire both clay mixtures to 1280 in oxidation and reduction

oxidation firing however didn’t get up to temperature. I would find out later it only got to ~1100, so future firings with that clay were kept at 1100 to keep the clay colour

studio work for one week in March was disrupted as i was caring for a friend in hospital – still got Studio proposal written up to hand in that Thursday though

played around with more performance work – doing a more durational performance work

eventually i figured out what i wanted to do with my studio project and work kicked off accordingly, quickly

at some point i ended up in hospital – don’t worry about it – i bounce 🙂

did some glaze tests

had an initial idea of using colours to tie the works of my project together – using bright vibratant colours the way colours are used to describe communities – i.e. sports teams, political parties, social groups, etc.

chose red and black because i like the combination – not much more to it – didn’t want to do rainbow (queer community) as would be too visual distracting from clay body. Also Red & Black is giving anti-facisim, it’s giving White Stripes, it’s giving Les Miz.

I wasn’t a fan of how the glaze tests came out – feels a bit too cartoon-y

Happier with just the clear glaze

to account for the obscure author-ship of the series i’m making. since i need to retain possession of the works for school, i made mugs for my collaborators, inspired by their corresponding series, so they still have part of the series too.
